A shelter from pigs on the wing
After getting psychic damage from the trailer of the upcoming Animal Farm "adaptation" coming 2026, I decided to hunker down and watch the original animated film in hopes of an antidote. I finished it feeling... underwhelmed.
( Beasts of England, Beasts of Ireland )
Yeah, the movie just feels like a watered-down SparkNotes version of the book with a new happier ending tacked on so the audience doesn't have to feel traumatized and left to think. I like the animation and voice-acting, but that's about it. I don't have strong feelings about the movie overall. Like obviously, it's superior to the 2026 atrocity coming out and a thousand times more faithful to the source material, but that's a low bar. I know there's a 1999 version of Animal Farm done in the live-action "Babe" style, but I don't trust it to be any good or have interest in watching it. The world still isn't ready for an actual good adaptation of Animal Farm. :/ In the meantime, simply reread the book. Or if you want more Animal Farm stuff, listen to the Animals album by Pink Floyd. :D
Gregclair ramble
Sinclair who's a bit too eager to get into relationship with Gregor and to do things because of his general lack of experience thus is very likely to let things that shouldn't happen happen, vs Gregor who's hyper aware of the age difference they have and therefore Sinclair's lack of experience. And because of his mother, he knows how bad abuse like that can get. He's way too conscious of what he does with Sinclair and gets unsure of almost everything they do together. Sinclair doesn't understand the hesitation, especially with the actual romantic stuff, isn't that what they're supposed to do together? To make things worse Gregor keeps it all in and doesn't say why, so the communication is not clear until he actually breaks down at some point. That also makes Sinclair feel bad for not trying to understand or even ask what was wrong. So they have to work through it, and it's overall hard for both of them for different reasons.
I love my older man who's having a hard time navigating relationships after going through so much. They're such a perfect angst material with a dash of comfort. I wrote You see me for what I am as a bit of an exploration of this (though through different lens and some self projection). I wanna do more writing of this sort in the future, their age gap is something I think would affect their relationship a lot alongside the other things about them.
Podcast Wrapped
( [Image]Top Podcast of the year )
I wasn't expecting Underwood and Flinch to be my top one, but tbh it makes sense! I started bingeing it pretty much immediately after I discovered it (which feels like ages ago but looking back it was around August). It doesn't feel like I've listened to 135 episodes either? But it's been like 7 seasons! XD
Tbh I'm still having a lot of fun with U&F even if the plot is so far away from what it started (even the creator has been very honest in saying that he's discovering the world as he writes lol)... idk the growth feels natural and I find myself still wanting to find out what happens next, which is a good sign that it still has me hooked! I remember how sad I was when I finally caught up because it would mean a month-long wait between episodes lmao.

I'm actually surprised DYK is #2 because i've only listened to like 57 episodes? But I guess they're kinda long so it makes sense. Anyway yeah all the rest of these track: I binged WOE.BEGONE until the plot stopped making sense to me (which, tbh, got me just under 250 episodes along); I got hooked on PodByNight's Stitch of Fate campaign and am also rearing to finish it; and I basically listened to like one episode of Loading Ready Run's Not a Drop to Drink every day until I finished all three seasons so... xd
( [Image] Time Stats Stuff )
Whew, 62,889 minutes is like 43 days if my maths are to be believed??? I barely listened to 5,688 mins of music according to Spotify... Damn. Anyway my minutes for 2026 are definitely going to be lower since my new job doesn't lend itself to podcast bingeing 🥲 but at least I'll have this to look back as my golden years of podcasting hahaha
Anyway, yeah Læce episodes were long as hell lmao. I don't usually like listening to pods longer then 3 hours but this show was just so goooddddddd ugh
There was a little more stuff in the wrapped but these were the more fun ones I think! Let's see what I get next year...
Danceman December Dance Party #17: Hayashi Niina
Immediately after the release of the group's most recent single, I was lucky to have Juice=Juice superfan
This has to be the shortest entry I have ever written for our Wednesday idol profiles but I wanted to make sure I spoke about Niina this year, during these moments when so little is documented outside of twitter and niche message boards. At the time of writing, the wiki tells me Niina has only been in Juice=Juice for just over five months, and I still can't get over the fact that this girl with such presence and such a voice is only in her second year of middle school.
Let's talk about Niina again in the future, friends, because I am sure we're going to be hearing from her a lot more in 2026!
